That’s why I decided to put together a cleaning schedule, and it made a huge difference in my day-to-day life as a stay-at-home mom.

Being a productive stay-at-home mom requires having daily and weekly tasks that need to be completed. The more often you stick to the schedule, the more productive you feel and the cleaner your house stays.
When you ignore your daily schedule, things start to fall apart. Putting together a daily schedule helps you to:
- Make time to clean each day
- Get the kids down at the right naptime

- Find time for self-care and enjoying personal hobbies

How To Make A Stay-at-Home Cleaning Schedule
When you feel stressed out and overwhelmed by keeping your house clean and everything else that needs to be done, you need a daily cleaning schedule for stay-at-home moms. I feel anxious when my house is a mess, and no matter how hard I tried to keep it clean, I never felt like it turned out well.
Then, I made a cleaning schedule, and my world changed.
I tried all of the cleaning schedules out there before figuring out the right one. Too many schedules I found were for people who:
1. Make A Priority For Each Day
Instead of trying to get everything done in one day, set a priority for each day. I divide up my house with a priority for each day. You don’t need to clean the bathrooms or bedrooms every day; make a day dedicated to those tasks.
Here are my priorities for each day.
- Monday – Bathrooms
- Tuesday – Bedrooms
- Wednesday – Dining Room
- Thursday – Kitchen
- Friday – Living Room
- Saturday – Outside
I make a list of necessary tasks for each area of the house and work through those each day in my priority area. The list should be things that I can accomplish in 20-30 minutes.
2. Set Realistic Daily Tasks
Aside from the priority task for the day, I have daily tasks that I must complete. These are the normal things that keep the house running smoothly and efficiently. I aim to make sure my tasks are a total of 30-45 minutes per day.
Examples of daily tasks are:
- Load the dishwasher
- Mop the kitchen
- Sweep the living room
- Wipe bathroom counter
- Pick up toys
3. Pick Times To Clean Daily
It’s hard to plan your daily tasks because you never know when the dishwasher will be ready or when the kids will track mud through the kitchen. You can come up with daily times to complete your priority tasks.
Write those times on your stay-at-home mom schedule and stick to them. They’ll help your house stay cleaner.
4. Have Monthly Tasks
Some tasks don’t need to be completed. Windows in your dining room don’t need to be cleaned weekly; they are a monthly task. I might clean light fixtures monthly rather than weekly.
When you make your priority task, come up with a few monthly tasks and complete one per week. One week, you might clean the windows, and another week, you might dust the ceiling fans.
Each room should have monthly tasks that need to be completed. By rotating these tasks throughout the month, everything stays in a fairly clean state.
5. Make A Morning Routine
Coming up with a morning routine helps ensure that your house stays clean. I like to wake up before the rest of my family and get a head start on chores and tasks that I need to do.
I get my hot cup of coffee, switch laundry, and unload the dishwasher. Having a morning routine kicks start my productive days, and I always feel happier when my days start on the right foot.
A few examples of morning routine tasks include:
- Unload the dishwasher
- Make beds
- Make breakfast
- Start a load of laundry
- Wipe down counters
6. Have An Evening Routine
I think having an evening routine is just as valuable as a morning routine. Think about it as a closing list; these are tasks that let you finish for the day knowing things are done and help start your day off on the right foot.
A few things that I do every evening include:
- Pack lunches
- Wipe down kitchen counters
- Run the last load in the dishwasher
- Switch laundry
- Pick up the last of the toys

- Start with a Fresh Slate
Getting your house clean in its current state is hard; start with a fresh slate. That might mean that you take a week of deep cleaning or hire help to get it done. You might involve the entire family and work each day on one area of the home.
Then, the next week, you get started with your new daily cleaning schedule.

Deep cleaning needs to happen from time to time, especially during spring cleaning. I like to have one deep cleaning per month. That might mean the living room gets scrubbed down well, or I take a day or two to organize kitchen cabinets.

How long you spend cleaning your house depends on your goals and how long you want to spend cleaning. An average stay-at-home mom cleans between one to two hours per day. If you need a working-at-home mom cleaning schedule, it looks different, just like a working mom’s cleaning schedule looks different.
On average, expect to clean one hour per day, but two hours might be your goal if you enjoy cleaning.
How Do Busy Moms Clean Their House Fast?
I always saw friends recommend that you keep your home clean enough that it’s company ready in 15 minutes, but I had no idea how to make that happen each day.
Then, I found these useful tips to help busy moms clean their house. You need some cleaning hacks for busy moms!
1. Declutter All The Time
It’s a lot easier to keep your home when you have fewer items in it. As more items accumulate, you need to get rid of things that you don’t need.
Take a bit of time each day to declutter. If you find something that you don’t need, get rid of it. This goes for toys as well! If you notice that there are toys that your kids never use, get rid of them.
2. Make Your Bed First
My mom always suggested that I make my bed first thing in the morning, and it turns out that she was right. Not only does it start my day off on the right foot, but I find it makes me want to keep my bedroom cleaner and encourages my kids to do the same thing.
Set the right example for your kids.
3. Give Chores To Kids
Some parents are hesitant to give chores to kids, but it’s a necessity in my book. Giving kids chores helps encourage responsibility and sets your child up for success.
Come up with a small list of chores that your kids need to complete. They might have chores on a loop or rotational schedule, or each child might have a set of chores that stays the same.
4. Do Multiple Clean Ups
Have a few clean-ups each day; never wait to clean up all of the toys until the end of the day. You’ll feel like you’re facing a daunting task.
Clean up after breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Multiple, quick pick-ups keep your house in tip-top shape. The same goes for your kitchen and any place that your family spends time regularly throughout the day.
When you wait for your coffee to finish, wipe down the counters or load the dishwasher. Find small bits of time to finish tasks.
